🌍 International Grecians: Round Up

27 March 2024

It has been a busy international break for the five Grecians who were representing their countries over the last week.

Finland - Ilmari Niskanen and Viljami Sinisalo

There was disappointment for our Finns and the Huuhkajat's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 were ended after a 4-1 defeat to Wales in Cardiff last Thursday. David Brooks and Neco Williams fired the Welsh into a two-goal lead before prolific striker Teemu Pukki dragged Finland back in it. Brennan Johnson and Daniel James added further goals in the second half. Niskanen made an substiutute appearance in the 86th minute, while Sinisalo was unused.

There was a better result for the pair on Tuesday night however, as they overcame Estonia in a 2-1 victory back in Helsinki. Niskanen played at 90 minutes as Fredrik Jensen strike and an own goal put Finland ahead, before Estonia pulled one back through Alex Tamm.

Wales U21 - Luke Harris

It was a fantastic international break for Luke Harris as he registered an assist in Wales' 2-1 win over Lithuania. After going a goal down, Harris neatly controlled the ballon the touchline and played the ball through to Ruben Colwill to level, before Lewis Koumas won the game for the young Dragons. Harris didn't feature in Wales second match - a 2-0 defeat to Morocco U23s.

Suriname - Yanic Wildschut

Suriname were in action against Martinique in the Netherlands on Sunday evening. They drew 1-1 with Yanic making an appearance off the bench in the 80th minute.

Sudan - Mo Eisa

Sudan played two friendly matches against Guinea-Bissau in Morocco over the international break. They won the first 1-0 through a goal from Aldin Shaboub before losing the second 2-1. Eisa was denied his second goal for his country via the offside flag, after he initially thought he had leveled the scores.
